Find your peace of mind in a Zen apartment

Before we focus on the most important elements of the interior in Zen style, we will focus for a moment on the concept itself. Its understanding can greatly facilitate the process of arranging a flat.

Zen is the school of Mahayana Buddhism, although there are also definitions that refer to Zen as philosophy, religion, and the general pattern of behavior. There is no doubt, however, that Zen originated in China during the Tang Dynasty.although, it is worth remembering that the term Zen is very difficult to define precisely. That is why examples describing the principles of the practice itself are often used to explain this word. Zen is focusing on being in the here and now and rejecting thinking about the past or the future. Thanks to this, you can experience the world better and take full advantage of its beauty. Zen is also understood as self-awareness, which in turn leads to a sense of union with the world. Meditation (zazen) plays a very important role. Its assumption is to get to know the essence of reality and accept its positive, but also negative sides. The result of reflection on the world is to introduce changes that will improve the quality of life of both the meditator and people close to them. In Zen, you reject the elements that provide an excess of stimuli and, moreover, distract attention from the really important issues. That is why the Zen style is sometimes called one of the varieties of minimalism. Initially, this type of arrangement was popular especially in China and other Asian countries Japan and Korea. Currently, living in the Zen style is more and more often found in various parts of Europe.

Minimalism in a small flat or house – proven ways to harmonise space

In interiors in the Zen style, a natural colour palette is definitely the most often used. The colours of the earth are a safe base and in addition, they are conducive to calmness and rest. Delicate shades of beige, brown and gray work really well. Classic white is also always a good choice. If you want more expressive colours, powder pink, olive green or muted blue will also be suitable. Minimalism in a small apartment has many advantages. First of all, it makes it easier to maintain order, and it introduces the impression of order and harmony.

Although there are not many accessories in a minimalist style apartment, this does not mean that you have to give them up completely, but quality is definitely more important than quantity. That is why accessories made of natural materials are usually purchased. The ideal choice is a wooden flowerbed, which further accentuates the beauty of plants. The Zen style especially loved the natural world, so it is difficult to find a better addition to the apartment than a flower. Accessories made of, for example, cotton, linen, rattan or wicker will also work great. A very important role is also played by stylish lighting, thanks to which a minimalist apartment acquires expression. Certainly, lamps with a wooden base and an amber lampshade will fit very well with the design. Candles and incense sticks are also often used, which make the interior cosy.

What furniture to choose for a Zen-style apartment?

Functional furniture is what minimalist style cannot do without. The flat does not have to be filled to the brim with unnecessary objects. It is simplicity and harmony that are characteristic of Zen style. Thanks to this, the interiors arouse blissful peace. Again, the best choice are natural materials and a subdued colour palette. Any wooden accents are welcome, e.g. a table and chairs, kitchen cabinets or a bed with a wooden frame. Also, low tables are considered a typical element of the Zen style. In the interiors, chests of drawers and shelves are also often used. They combine simplicity with usability. In addition, on the countertops of this type of furniture you can display your favorite accessories. For example, a candle or a potted flower.

The use of effectiveness of geometric forms will add to the style of your flat.. A rectangular framed mirror will give the room a little expressiveness. In the household in a minimalist style, furniture upholstery in light shades predominates. If you want a slightly stronger contrast, a beige sofa with wooden legs will work well. The whole will be perfectly complemented by a rattan armchair. In this way, you will get a nice, and at the same time very comfortable seating set.
